- LBD
Longitudinal Business Database.
- LED
Local Employment Dynamics. This term is used to refer to the voluntary partnership between the U.S. Census Bureau and state entities. The public use data products are considered LED products (QWI, J2J, LODES, PSEO, etc.).
- LEHD
Longitudinal Employer Household Dynamics. This refers to the data infrastructure assembled within Census to generate the LED data products. The LEHD Snapshot is a product of that data infrastructure. The term can also refer to the program within the Center for Economic Studies at Census that manages this infrastructure.
- LMI
Labor Market Information. These are state government offices responsible for collecting and disseminating data on the labor market within the states. Most have joined the LED partnership with Census, and provide some of the core data of the LEHD infrastructure.
- LODES
LEHD Origin-Destination Employment Statistics. This is the public use data product providing information on linkages between place of residence and employment for jobs. This forms the microdata for the OnTheMap application.
- MAF
Master Address File. An internal frame of residences and associated geographic characteristics.
- MAF-ARF
Master Address File - Administrative Records File. A source of residence information in 2011.
- MAFX
Master Address File Extract. An extract of the MAF that can be requested by researchers.
- MOU
Memorandum of Understanding. These are agreements between agencies that govern data sharing and usage of that data.
- MSA
Metropolitan Statistical Area
- OPM
Office of Personnel Management. OPM partners with LEHD to provide job information for federal employees. This data is not part of the LEHD Snapshot.
- OTM
OnTheMap. This the public use LED application displaying places of work and residence for jobs.
- PIK
Protected Identification Key. This is an encrypted Social Security number used within Census and at the FSRDCs for linking person-level data from multiple sources. See Wagner and Layne [2014] and Mulrow et al. [2011] for more information.
- PSEO
Post-Secondary Employment Outcomes. This is a public use LED data product reporting earnings, location, and industry of employment after completion of post-secondary education.
- QCEW
Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages. The microdata for this BLS public use data product is collected by state LMI offices and shared with Census through the LED partnership.

Research Data Centers. Predecessor to the FSRDC system.
- SEIN
State employer identification number. It is constructed from the state numeric (FIPS) code and the UI account number. The BLS refers to the UI account number in combination with the reporting unit number as SESA-ID.

SEIN reporting unit. This is the place of work (establishment) reported on the QCEW.

Unit-to-Worker Impute. This is an imputation procedure to assign establishments (SEINUNITs) to jobs at multi-establishment SEINs in the LEHD infrastructure.
- UI
Unemployment Insurance. In the LEHD Infrastructure, UI wage records are the quarterly earnings reports that form the jobs data. These records are used in the administration of the state unemployment insurance system.
